TOKYO - After firing a transexual employee, Shobunsha Publications, Inc. is fighting back by appealing a ruling by Tokyo District Court which said the firing og the employee was against the law. The appeal was filed Thursday.
In January the transexual employee, who was male at birth, requested to be employed as a woman. The company rejected the request. In March the employee began comming to work dressed as a woman, and subsequently in April was fired by the company for violating office regulations.
According to Judge Jiro Hosokawa, the dimissal was not legal because the company could not prove that the employee's free-style fasion was hurting the company image and business.
The company was forced to pay the employee 2.64 million yen, which is the amount the employee would have made had he (she?) worked at the company until April of next year.
Last July, the employee legally took on a female name in family court. (Zone81.com)
