With the fiscal year in the US starting June 1st, 2002, many staes have enacted some curious new laws.
The following are a brief sampling:
SMOKING; Virginia will ban smoking in public schools 24 hours, even after student activities have ended.
MEN; New Hampshire will make a commission to study issues affecting men.
DOGS; Florida made new penalties for those who intentionally injure or kill a guide dog.
GRITS; Georgia passed a bill naming grits as the state's "official prepared food."

I would be happy to take these one by one:
Virginia: Are you serious? If smoking is illegal by minors, then isn't it already illegal to smoke at school? I really want to send my kid to a school where smoking is "OK."
New Hampshire: What "issues affecting men" will this be addressing? "The Issues Affecting Men pannel will today discuss how to get chicks and keep from going bald." Is this paid for by taxes?
Florida: Who goes around killing guide dogs? Someone really really mad at a blind person and looking for a little REDEMPTION
Georgia: Enough said. Anyone from the US will know this is par for the course for our lovely, yet slightly slow neighbors down in Georgia..
