Man Lodged in Windshield Left to Die

FORT WORTH, Texas - Chante J. Mallard, 25, a nursing assistant, is charged with allegedly hitting a homeless man with her vehicle and leaving him stuck in her windshield to die. The incident occured last October.
Mallard has admitted to hitting Gregory Biggs, a homeless person, on the way home from a party where she was drinking and taking ecstasy. She went home with then lodged in her windshield instead of getting help for him.
Mallard was arrested Wednesday night and, if convicted, is looking at five years to life in prison.
The nursing assistant claims she was afraid to get help the night she hit Biggs because was high on ecstasy and driving under the influence of alcohol. Biggs apparently pleased for help to Mallard while lodged in the windshield in vein.
Tarrant County prosecutor Richard Alpert is quoted as saying, "We have information that shows that the person was on there long enough that they lived, suffered and they were not given medical attention and that it would have made a difference if they were."
According to the police, Mallard, assisted by friend, dumped Biggs's dead body in a park after he finally died, three days after the crash in the windshield of the vehicle parked in Mallard's garage. The body was found October 27th.
A tip last month lead police to Mallard, and upon investigating her home they found the car parked in the garage with the blood and hair of Biggs in the hole in the windshield. In the back yard, police found the car seats removed and burned.
Police recently arrested one suspect who apparently helped Mallard dump the corpse. Mallard has told police that for the three days Biggs was in her windshield in her garage and still alive, she "visited" him from time to time to say "Hi." On those occasions, Biggs allegedly pleaded frantically to Mallard, but she ignored his pleas and simply told him "sorry."
Mike Heiskell, Mallard's lawyer, says Mallard is "not the animal or monster the police are portraying her to be. Not this cold inhumane person that we've heard about."
Biggs, 37, was mentally ill and was staying at a homeless shelter. Had had given flowers to workers there on several occasions.

How would you like to be the lawyer for this person? "Uh, let's see.. Can you say "Anything for M-O-N-E-Y?" This lawyer would do anything to get on TV. He has no chance in hell of winning the case.
I also love the spins the lawyers put on the cases: "My client is not the inhumane animal you think!" Uh, Jack you might want to review the facts of the case one more time... Or maybe you can use the "I-was-an-abused-child-so-let-me-have-a-free-license-to-terrorize-society" defense. That one seems to work in the US sometimes. Or maybe the "I-am-an-idiot" defense. Can't wait to see which one they use...

The haven't even finished the trial. She did it May of 2002 and they still aren't done with the case. Sentancing will probably take another 3 years.
Seriously, the trial should have been over in like three days. The jury walks in and hears that:
1) she was high
2) she was drunk
3) she hit the guy
4) she left him in her windshield for THREE DAYS!
5) she then disposed of his body
How, exactly, could she possibly not be guilty? And how is she not inhumane? That is the dumbest statement that I have ever read and that is saying a lot.
Does that whole "I-was-an-abused-child" bit work?!? If so, I am going to have to cash in on some of that action! :-)
In case you couldn't tell, I think our judicial system is useless.

I too have been trying to follow this nausiating case, but have not been able to find out anything on the trial or sentencing. It's very disturbing that sociopathic individuals are living among us and are disguised as productive members of society.
I would have hoped that they have better background checks and drug screening for hospital workers.

Not to take anything away from the stupid, hideous, careless, heartless, etc act that she committed, it wasn't as if she went out and made up her mind to purposely commit these crimes. Needless to say, she should definitely spend the rest of her life in jail for what she has done. I would have more (though, not much) sympathy had she hit this man while "messed up" and taken him to the hospital or called the police; but the fact that she left him to die as if he wasn't worth anything is heartless and selfish. Like Antionette, I will pray for her because she is still a human and only God can judge her. Man doesn't have a heaven or hell to put anyone in, but with God's forgiveness she can still make it in. Sorry folks, but as much as I hate to say it the sad truth is that Rick is probably right about the media frenzy and the long lived headlines we would all see, along with endless posturing by J. This is the saddest and next to most horrible story I have ever heard (next to the black man who was pulled behind a truck by a chain). Being high on drugs or alcohol is NO exuse for ANYTHING, but it does show how dangerous ectasy and other mind altering drugs are and what can happen to a seemingly "normal" person when used. No matter what her sentence is, it will not come close to the fact that she has to live with what she did, and in the end, face her maker and only HE knows her true conscience.

It amazes me that some people are willing to excuse actions because a person was high or drunk, or scared. This person was allegedly messed up on drugs when the accident occurred, that has been given. But unless she and all of her friends were messed up for the next three days, three weeks, three months, neither she nor her friends have any week excuses for her or their actions, and or their attitudes in the case. She is with out a doubt guilty of murder as are her friend to some degree. Being drunk, or on drugs, or afraid or being underprivileged or poor or rich, does not excuse any of us from being HUMAN. Nor does it excuse us from needing to take responsibility for our own actions. Black, White, Red, Yellow Green, who cares, hate or not, murder is murder, and should be convicted as such. We all were the title of human being, and share in the responsibility that comes with it.

Hell, screw it, do what I said before, give her the worst death imaginable - bury her alive. Throw her fat-ass in a coffin, hook-up an outside air-line, keep the line open for three days, and on the third day, cap it off. Then maybe she'll have an understanding of the hell this poor guy went through. Anticipation in this cse would be the BEST punishment. Those three days would be the longest and last of her life, and as far as I am concerned, it sure as hell serves her right. Hope Satan has room for one more and hopefully she'll be on her way there soon. With any luck at all, maybe, and I hope and pray, that she'll get shanked in prison, or meet some other violent end. i just can't believe what the world has come to . how can a human be so evil. it's august 2003, and my boyfriend just told me about this because i never heard about it, and i truly wish that he wouldn't have told me about this terrible, terrible incident, it is far too disturbing, and thinking about what that poor man went through for 3 days is heartbreaking, and it will haunt me. why couldn't the selfish witch get the poor man help. why did she not recieve the death penalty, that was cold blooded, and there is no excuse for what she did. oh, i'm drunk, slap me on the wrist. what the fuck ever, she wasn't drunk the 3 days after. yeah we all make mistakes, but this was no fucking mistake, she should have never got behind the wheel being drunk in the first place. i don't want to be hateful, and i pray Jesus forgives me for being so judgmental, but I can't help it. it makes me sick and angry. that's what is wrong with the world. hate and evilness just breeds more. i just wish that the person she murdered could bring her to justice.

I agree with the writer, Rick, in the editorials above...The kinker, gentler, political correctness, "Oh, the poor, downtroddened African-Americans..." is foolish and naive. I can imagine that quite a few reading this will say, "Just another dumb, southern, white racist looking for scapegoats for the ills within America." Well, my current best friend is a black woman and the wisest person I ever met was a black man I happen to meet in 1985-86?, in a storm shelter in Biloxi, MS. We talked about different things as the storm passed over the area. This fellow's wisdom blew me away. So, I don't give a damn what some people think of me. F*ck 'em.
It seems to me what is important to a society can be summed up in the preamble of the U.S. Constitution. Paraphrased, "happiness and justice for all". And this idea is slowly but surely eroding away from the fabric in the urban cities in America. Much of the problem of the crime and violence in our cities seems to be the African-American' rap/hip-hop subculture that has set itself within the urban areas. No, not all blacks are dysfunctional or have a criminal record a mile long, but, as Bob Dylan sings, "Don't need to be a weatherman to know which way the wind blows."
I live in New Orleans, where African-Americans are approx. 60% of the population. The crime is prevasive, there is almost a black-on-black murder every night in Orleans parish, and from what I see walking about downtown, whites have not cornered the market on racism.
I'm now in the process of finding a place somewhere that have the lowest percentage of blacks living there, (e.g. Utah, New Mexico, Arizona). The whole situation is sad, and I can't take this stupid shit anymore. I'm going to live in a place where my own people are.
Get real, folks...before it's too late.
