Man Stabs Neighbor For Being Too Friendly

Saturday, July 06 2002, 09:05

AKRON, Ohio - Scott E.Henretty of Akron was sentenced to 15 years to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to aggravated murder.

Rachelle Greenwood was stabbed with a kitchen knife on multiple occasions after he was knocking on her door to introduce himself.

Henretty's reasons were that she was "Too Friendly" and must have been "evil". Common Pleas Judge Patricia Cosgrove ordered Henretty to serve his time and have his psychatric treatment at Oakwood Correctional Institute for the October 2000 murder.

Caesar's Commentary

I am at a loss for words... In Japan I think it would be more like stabbing your neighbor for not following the rules or not being social enough. I read about some lady who stabbed her neighbor for throwing out aluminum cans on plastic day... And the other one where a mother stabbed her daughter for eating ice cream out of the red lacquer miso bowl...

But seriously, is treating this person really worth it? "Let's pay money to treat this guy so he can go back out into society and make a difference." Uh yeah, let's pay $45,000 a year in taxes to give this guy a more comfortable life than most non-wacko people. Justice is served. Classic...

Scott E. Henretty, you have just qualified yourself for an honorary membership to Zone81's jackass files... Congratulations

You know just because one person died doesn't mean teo people's lives need to be ruined.

I believe a psycho shot a neighbor lady somewhere in Japan Yesterday, She was talking to the cops for at least 7 times, and the psycho talked to the cops at least 5 times before all this happened. This story seems more appropriate for here?>Caesar?? can't find the source in English - sorry -

I don't understand why society is so bleeding heart towards dangerous individuals. If insanity is going to be used as an excuse we still need to have accountability. For example, if this person is considered mentally Ill, and the doctor says that they are safe, then the doctor should be accountable for the crimes of the person he released into society. If not, then make the insane person accountable for their own actions. Why is no one able to accept responsibility for their own actions anymore?

I just happened to come across this site (09/25/03)and don't know if previous posters will see this, but here goes. Candice, please understand that many more than "one" live has been ruined already. Rachelle's family (especially her sister Michelle) and boyfriend will suffer from this the rest of their lives. Scott Henretty took my neices life because she was "too nice." I don't care what his mental state was when it happened or what his mental state is now. He is a killer who should spend the rest of his pathetic life behind bars not in some posh institution. Please understand that he had absolutely no motive for this killing so if he is let out, he will do it again.
i know him
Scotty was a great guy, he babysat me when I was a kid, he took me fishing, got me a job. Mental illness is a nasty thing, it's a shame this girl is dead.
I know him also
Thank you to "i know him." My heart aches for the Scotty I once knew but even more for Rachelle "Shelby" Greenwood and her family and friends. Clearly, their loss is incomparable to mine. Their anger is understandable. Many lives have been impacted, some destroyed, by this truly senseless tragedy. Scotty was mentally ill (and yes - his family and he did spend many years and tears trying to stabilize his condition - though again, a suffering incomparable to that suffered by Shelby's loved ones). We as a society need to come up with a better way to handle the issue of treatment of mentally ill individuals so as to prevent such future tragedies.

I know him also, I don't know who you are... but I'm sure we know each other. Much love too you and I hope all is well.

gah
Yikes, I just read this story. I just married a Henretty and I want to know who his grandfather is to see if there are bad family genes going on here. Maybe we should adopt instead of taking a chance of having defective children.
i am a henretty
gah are you a moron? what kind of ridiculous comment is that. Mental illness is not something to be blase and selfish about. It is an attitude like that causes more harm than good. Defective children??!! Love conquers all...
The Sister
Even after all this time I still grieve. My sister was a beautiful person. If Mr Henretty had only asked for help, she would have listened. Her life was not one of ease, but of struggle. I've heard people talk of Mr Henretty's mental illness and the difficulty he had with his father's suicide, and you know what... SO WHAT! Mental illness drove him to kill, well he can spend the rest of his life in jail then. People saw him before court, laughing and joking with his attorney and family, then as soon as he caught sight of our family or the prosecutor his entire demeanor changed. He used his mental illness in a very calculated and thoughtful way. I loved my sister. This May whe would have turned 30. Instead of planning a party I am planning a visit to the cemetary.
I know him
I'm so sorry for you... I understand your anger... In fact, if I was in your shoes and saw the murderer of my sister, there is a very good chance I would be taking his place behind bars facing the same charges.
I don't know him, but...
  I fucked his sister

i'm not here to judge, but if you didn't know, now you do....... you reap what you sew I f***ed his sister!!!!!
