Human DNA for sale?

MIAMI, Florida - Major League Baseball great Ted Williams passed away last week, and his death, or more so his remains, are causing quite an ethical stir.

Ted Williams' estranged daughter Barbara Joyce Williams Ferrell has accused her half brother, John Henry Williams, of secretly shipping the body to Alcor Life Extension Foundation, a provider of cryonics services, in order to preserve the body and possibly sell the DNA in the future.

Williams passed away Friday in a hospital in central Florida. He was 83.

Barbara Joyce Williams Ferrell told news agencies that the body had been moved from Hooper's Funeral Home in Inverness on Saturday to Scottsdale, Arizona the day before. Alcor Life Extension Foundation is located in Scottsdale, Arizona. "My father's body was put on a plane yesterday with people from Alcor. I will rescue my father's body. Me and my attorney are working on that." (Zone81.com)

I have seen and done some pretty low things in my time, but selling your Dad's carcass for cash is pretty sick. Talk about living off your Dad's fame..

In Japan, I have always hated these nobodies who get famous from their parent's fame. Like the Prime Minister's son, Nagashima's son (who couldn't play baseball OR act), and Takako Matsu (Matsu Takako) who is cute but can't act for crap.

OK, a few months back we saw some idiot run onto a baseball field, pick up Luis Gonzalez's gum off the ground, and sell it on eBay for $12,000 or something.

Now we have Ted Williams' son selling his DNA...

What is next, "Clones-R-Us" where you can pick out and buy people to your specifications? (Hey, not a bad idea, order me a Norika Fujiwara (Fujiwara Norika) please! Extra large breasts and pouting cheeks to go) If I am criticizing this then I would be like Chet in Weird Science. (Although I am more like Chet now as I get older, more so than the high school geeks who made the girl)

I can not decide in these cases who the bigger idiot is, the buyer or the seller... By the way, does this woman really need four names? Looks to me like she is sticking "Williams" in there to keep some association to Ted. "Uh, yeah, Ted Williams is really my Dad. You bet!"

One more note, to this day I can't figure out the word "estranged." Is an estranged daughter a daughter you tell to leave you alone or something? "I know you are my daughter but just leave me alone and pretend you aren't, OK?" I don't get it...

  I wholeheartedly agree with you about wanting to sell the DNA of Ted Williams. This is what happens when there isn't specific instructions and you're estranged from one or more parents. The only thing I don't agree with is the daughter using the name Williams also. My opinion is this: There are too many women who forsake their idenity when they marry and leave off their given name. I applaud women who are now using their given name. I really don't think she's in it for the money - I could very well be wrong.
