Cereal Burglar On Loose - Famouse Japanese Crimes

Friday, August 30 2002, 10:00

MASSILLON, Ohio - From time-to-time, there are reports about crooks who commit a series of crimes. They are usually referred to as serial criminals. In the city of Massillon, residents are dealing with cereal burglaries. Burglars are sneaking into homes to steal cereal, NewsChannel5 reported.

Cereal: I personally love it, but don't know if I would do 20 years for it...

Phyllis Sikora recently entered her home to discover that the culprits had been in her home, but they only took two bowls of Reese's Puffs Cereal.

Sikoria said that bandits got to her cereal after getting a garage door opener from an unlocked car parked outside.

"They were able to get into homes with Genies," she said. "It's scary to think someone was walking around your home when you are dead asleep."

WEWS said three other homes in the neighborhood were burglarized in the same way. No valuables were taken, just cereal.

In one case, the culprits left cigarette butts, however.

Massillon Police chief Mark Weldon said every time he looks at the police report on the case, it just doesn't make sense.

"You are risking a great deal for absolutely nothing," he said. "You are risking prison time, a criminal record, to do dumb stuff like this."

Police are exploring many leads in the case, such as a footprint in Sikora's home.

In the meantime, Sikora has a message for the cereal burglar: "Stay away from this neighborhood. We're all on high alert, and don't leave the bowls behind."

Caesar's Commentary

That is classic, risking your life for cereal... In my years in Japan I have heard of some pretty strange crimes here too. But crime in Japan has a whole different nature. A different mindset if you will... Here is a list of some of the dumbest Japanese crimes I have heard of:

Man steals towel to wear on his head because of hot weather

Man steals "puffy pants" to look like Japanese construction worker

Fujiwara Norika's panties stolen after being bought on internet

Armed man steals money and farmer's daughter

Member of AJJA arrested for annoying people

Foreigner arrested for criticizing Japanese News

Kids at daycare arrested for being different color

Japanese man on trial for being too manly

Woman in custody for not carrying umbrella on rainy day

Man sentenced to death for not wearing white cotton mask when having a cold

Gee, I knew they were strict but I had no idea they were that strict... Other nice references about our warm, open-minded Japanese friends:

I have lived in Japan for four years and have been a completely innocent victim of crime on several occassions, as well as being the only willing witmess to a fatal hit and run accident. There is myth that goes somethi.ng like this "Japan is safety country." However the media, police and an enormous sector of the public are blatantly unwilling to allow any sense of justice to a foreigner.one is far more likely to be accusede of being a criminal and joing the fictitios band of crimes committed by foreigners list, than in successfully reporting stolen bikes, trespassing, rape, attacks by strangers in public etcetera.Note that seldom are foreign victims of crime helped without the insistence of INTERPOL. Japan is rife with deep-set racism and corruption. What a sad and pathetic state of affairs.

My mother in law was going out with a Yakuza who used to come to our house at midnight or thereabouts and wake our baby. I told him to fuck of or I would take care of business. The gutless prick never came back. So much for the tough Japanese Yakuza. Oh and I dont live with my mother in law anymore. She never told him not to come over at midnight. You have to stand up for yourself over here and dont buy the crap. Make sure they are held to account whoever they are.
