on the Japanese Government Scholarship, but I'll be in Osaka.
The main expense there is going to be accomodation, so if you're getting that paid for you should be sweet. I'm still trying to figure out what the allowance is supposed to cover, but I guess it covers food and trains...everything else seems to be supplied. As far as food goes, 50000 yen per person per month should be fine, if you eat gakushoku or other cheap places you should be able to get that down to 30000 or so. Overall the allowance seems pretty generous...I guess bringing the wife will change the situation quite a bit.
After that I guess it really depends how much you want to travel/go out, whatever...buying a train pass will make it a lot cheaper.
Overall maybe 60000-70000 per month for 1 person should be enough if you're not paying accomodation? I'm waiting to see how it goes too...I think they give you enough money for a pretty comfortable life.
